Confidentiality levels and private documents
Restrict who can see a document with confidentiality levels and Manage access, and keep private files in the workspace Docs area.
1 min read
Not every document is for every eye. Confidentiality levels restrict who can see a document, and the workspace Docs area gives you a private space for files that are yours until you share them.
Confidentiality levels
A confidentiality level marks how sensitive a document is and restricts who can open it. Commercial terms, HR files, and legal documents can sit in the same register as everything else without being readable by everyone. The levels themselves are configured by your workspace admins.
Manage access on a document
- 1
Open the document you want to restrict.
- 2
Click Manage access.

- 3
Set the confidentiality level or adjust who can see the document, then save. People without access no longer see it.
Private documents in Docs
The workspace Docs area in the sidebar holds documents that do not belong to a project. Files you upload there are private to you until you share them, which makes it the right place for drafts and working files.

Sharing and starring
Share a private document when it is ready for other eyes, and star any document to pin it to your Starred tab for quick access. Starring is personal: your stars are yours alone.
Restricting a document does not pause the record. Every access change is written to the change log, so there is always an answer to "who could see this, and since when?"
